The Confidence Corner #1

So, I’ve moved the blog over to this server, let’s see how that goes.
I don’t know how many of you know “The Landlord Scam” but this is how it generally goes.
Conman has a short term lease on a place or is house-sitting for someone.
Then he advertises the apartment for cheap.
Gets first and last month’s rent from everyone who comes to see the place. (Usually averaging $900 from about 16 groups of people)
Come “move in day” they have no apartment, and he’s long gone with and average of $14 400.
So that’s the typical scam. Now, I don’t personally know anyone who would dare perform such a heinous and disgusting crime. However, I have heard of a less than savoury character performing this... with a little panache... I must admit, even I admire his... boldness.
Before beginning the con, he puts up fake advertisements, for a property lawyer.
After completing the above, he has an acquaintance pose as the lawyer.
The marks call him up, and talk to him. He pulls a $1000 retainer from each person. BOOM he walks away with $16 000.
Just a few hours of work, and they walked away with $30 400... cash.
That’s what I call a new and improved Landlord Scam.
